There is no seat ‘entry’ more satisfying than the one provided by the Torno. The reason: hold the backrest and swivel yourself into an open seat, letting you lean into a stable frame, yet allowing you to move your legs in all directions. The Torno chair, stool and round table are designed to enable break-out areas, making it easier to create public amenities by configuring a set of revolving chairs, sofas and tables designed by Swedish design studio Form Us With Love.
‘With Torno, you can facilitate a terrace, lounge, square or dining space, based on a flexible system. When we first prototyped the series we mimicked the behaviour of a rotating set of activities, where work and leisure time tends to blend,’ Jonas Pettersson, Co-founder and CEO at Form Us With Love says.
The guiding theme for the Torno series is the purpose of easy entry and movement. Simple, effortless and without snobbery, the series offers aluminium chairs and tables that are accessible. With chairs designed in open backrest configurations, the collection supports self-determined lives, giving the user a range of options for exploiting how they would like to sit and move around in the seat.
‘The brief for Torno was rooted in the fact that we all respond differently to the place we inhabit, however, with sensations of associations, furniture can transform us to think— ‘I will just move that chair to suit my need for the day.’ In that way the design is built on behaviour, just as much as it becomes a part of an improved experience,’ Martin Halle, Co-owner & Creative Director at +Halle says.
Flexible chairs and tables allow different people to make their space their own—providing a good seating experience, in an airport, a café, park or studio. ‘Today there is a need to respond to different levels of comfort. We designed Torno as an appliance—from a full aluminium chair to both seat and backrest upholstered,’ Pettersson explains.
The Torno chair, stool and small round table have indoor and outdoor possibilities and come in three standard variations: Black (powder coat), Pine Green (powder coat) and raw aluminium. ‘The utility aspects of the Torno series come as a result of several years of research into the typology of public seating, engaging the user to become an active part of any environment,’ Pettersson concludes.
“We’ve always liked the approach to design at +Halle. The Torno chair is perfect for the vibe and style we wanted to create in the new deli. It’s beautiful, simple and built to last. It’s still rare to come across it used as an outdoor chair, and that became a powerful argument in our endeavor to create a place with a unique look and feel.”TORNO AT DEPANNEUR CPH
